The BS-6 norms will come into play very soon. And, as soon as the regulations become active, all the automobile manufacturers will have to update or replace their engines before 31 March 2020 to meet the BS-6 emission norms. However, if you're too eager to purchase a new car with a BS-6 compliant engine, there are already a lot of options that are available in the Indian auto market. Don't worry about the fuel, though, as BS-IV engines can run on BS-VI fuel comfortably. Moreover, the BS-6 fuel will be available from April 2020, so even if you buy a BS-6 car today, you won't have to feed it BS-4 fuel for too long. Let's have a look at currently available BS-6 compliant offerings in India.

Maruti Suzuki has already updated all of its petrol-fed engines to meet the BS-6 emission norms. Starting with the Alto 800, the small hatchback's 3-cylinder engine is now BS-6 compliant, but the mileage has dropped down from 24.7kmpl to 22.05kmpl. Moving on, the newly launched Maruti Suzuki S-Presso also houses a BS-6 compliant engine in the form of a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder K-Series engine that makes 68PS and 90Nm. Yes, it is the same mill that also powers the Alto K10. The all-new Maruti Suzuki S-Presso comes with a claimed mileage of 21.4kmpl and 21.7kmpl for different variants.

Also ready to roar with BS-6 compliant engines are the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire. The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers both the hatchback and sedan models is capable of generating 83PS and 113Nm. Similar to the Alto 800, the mileage here also has come down from 22kmpl to 21.21kmpl. Moving further, the newest iteration of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets two engine options, a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol mill, and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder motor. The latter is the same unit that is also found under the hood of the Swift and Ignis and is BS-6 compliant. Mileage here is lower than that of Swift at 20.52kmpl.

There are two more offerings from Maruti Suzuki that house BS-6 compliant engines. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno can be had with either a 1.2-litre K12B petrol or a 1.2-litre DualJet mild-hybrid engine. Both the mentioned powerhouses are BS-6 compliant and return a mileage of 19.56kmpl to 23.87kmpl depending on the engine and gearbox option. At last, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga's 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol-fed mill that churns out 105PS and 138Nm also meets the BS-6 emission norms. The mill can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed AT gearbox. The claimed mileage stands at 19.01kmpl and 17.99kmpl for the MT and the AT, respectively.

Apart from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, and Jeep are also offering a few BS-6 compliant models. Speaking of Hyundai, the South Korean automaker is offering the all-new Grand i10 Nios with a BS-6 compliant petrol engine that makes 83PS and 114Nm. On the other hand, the Hyundai Elantra is also available with a BS6-compliant petrol motor that generates 152PS/192Nm and returns a mileage of 14.6kmpl. Moving on to Jeep, Compass Trailhawk is on offer with a BS-6 compliant 2.0-litre Multijet 4-cylinder engine churning out 170PS and 350Nm. The mileage figures read 14.9kmpl. Last but not least, the Kia Seltos can also be had with an array of BS-6 compliant engines. All of the 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engines meet the BS-6 emission norms and return a mileage of 16.1kmpl to 21kmpl depending on the engine and gearbox you choose.
