Honda Cars India has unofficially commenced the bookings for the BS-VI version of the existing City sedan. Several dealerships in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Chennai have confirmed the opening of bookings. Some dealers said that deliveries would begin in December.

The BS-VI Honda City with a manual transmission was recently registered with the Delhi Regional Transport Office (RTO). The car’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor generates 119bhp. The reworked petrol engine may come with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) but the same is yet to be officially confirmed. The car is likely to cost ₹35,000-40,000 more than the existing BS-IV version.

The BS-VI series of the Honda City is expected to be identical to the current BS-IV trims. The upgraded petrol-manual Honda City will come in the SV, V, VX and ZX models. The entry-level trim gets rear parking sensors, dual airbags, antilock braking system, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), remote locking, 15-inch alloy wheels, power windows and wing mirrors, automatic air-conditioning, cruise control, and a Bluetooth-compatible sound system. The mid-level City V model adds a rear camera, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and keyless entry and go.

The BS-VI City VX model, over and above the SV and V trims, will get a sunroof, adjustable telescopic steering, 16-inch alloy wheels, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Features like LED headlamp, curtain and side airbags, auto wipers and headlights, and leatherette upholstery would be exclusive features of the top-level ZX trim.

Honda has already announced that it will continue to sell diesel cars in the BS-VI era. The City’s BS-VI diesel version could be launched before the new emission norm comes into effect from April 1.

The fifth-generation Honda City, meanwhile, is all set to debut in Thailand later this month. The car is expected to be rolled out in India in late 2020.
