German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW has launched X7, its biggest sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India. The car was first unveiled in 2018 and has been listed on the company’s India website since January this year.

The X7 will be available in the xDrive 40i and xDrive30d DPE Signature versions. While the former will be brought to India as a completely built unit (CBU), the latter will be assembled locally. The xDrive 40i and xDrive30d DPE Signature are both priced at ₹98.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The X7 is based on the Clear Architecture (CLAR) platform developed by BMW which underpins the 5 Series and 7 Series. The facelift X7 has a larger front grille. It sports large rear and front bumpers, a higher bonnet, and a cleaner profile. The X7, like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, has three rows of seats. The car has a split tailgate for easy cargo loading, a feature commonly found in Range Rover SUVs.

The X7 xDrive30d DPE Signature trim is hauled by a 6-cylinder, 3.0-litre diesel engine which outputs 620Nm peak torque and 265PS maximum power. The xDrive 40i version, on the other hand, has a turbocharged, 6-cylinder 3.0-litre petrol engine which outputs 450Nm peak torque and 340PS maximum power. Both motors are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission (AT) unit and equipped with the BMW xDrive (all-wheel) manoeuvring system.

The BMW X7’s features include adaptive air suspension on both axles, Live Cockpit Professional, two 10.3-inch full HD touchscreens on the second row, panoramic sunroof, Parking Assistant Plus, 360-degree surround camera, and a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.

The safety features comprise six airbags, and dynamic stability control (DSC) including corner braking control (CBC). A reversing assistant feature records the last 50 meters driven.

The Mercedes-Benz GLX is the BMW X7’s only competitor in the Indian full-sized SUV market.
