BMW has been one of the major luxury car manufacturers in the international automotive industry for a very long time. Vehicles coming from the BMW stable are not only known for the luxury that they offer, but are also regarded as the best driver’s cars in the luxury space.

The BMW X1 has been a very successful product for the company. The model became a superhit not only in India, but also in other countries after it became the most affordable BMW on offer a few years back. The German company has already launched the new X1 internationally to rival the very potent Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3. But, it looks like BMW is working on an extended wheelbase version of the same SUV.

To offer room for seven fully-grown adults (seven-seater in short), test mule of the long wheelbase version has just been spotted in an unknown country. Design wise, it is the same as the new X1 but gets a new bumper, headlight and taillight design. Other than this, the roofline seems to have grown taller along with a much flatter beltline.

The long wheelbase X1 will most likely be based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform from the Mini brand and engines are expected to be shared with its standard counterpart. Therefore, it will derive power from the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines with varying power and torque figures. Four-Wheel Drive might be offered as well. However, BMW might not bring the long wheelbase version of the X1 to India.

Other than the long wheelbase X1, BMW is working on the X2 crossover as well which will be underpinned by the X1’s platform only. However, the X2 will have a coupe-like sloping roofline much like the X4 and X6.
