BMW will be launching the new X3 in India on August 28, 2014. Showcased first in the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the new X3 is majorly a face-lift given to the current car rather than a brand-new replacement. The current generation of the X3 has been on sale in India since 2011.

The mid-life improvements done on the X3 mainly include cosmetic upgrades on the inside and outside of the new car. The front fascia of the new X3 draws its inspiration from the company’s new design language with larger headlamp assembly and a newly designed, more pronounced, kidney-grille. The overall design is based on similar lines as of the recently launched BMW X5. Redesigned bumpers, new alloy wheel design pattern and new tail-lamps complete the refreshments done on the exterior.

Inside the new X3, the centre console will be finished in high-gloss and will feature new upholstery design. Expect the new X3 to come equipped with all of the luxury offerings seen in the current version of the car. In addition to that, the new X3 gets an electric-opening function for the bootlid..

On the mechanical front, there are no significant revisions planned for the new X3. It will retain the current line-up of 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre diesel engines. The 2.0 litre diesel engine puts out 185PS of power and 380Nm of torque in the current car, but is expected to receive minor tweaks in its output figures on the new car. The bigger 3.0 litre motor will not receive any upgrades though.

BMW will be manufacturing the new X3 locally at its assembly plant in Chennai. When it goes on sale in India, the new X3 will be competing against the likes of Audi Q5, Mercedes ML-Class etc., in the market. Prices of the new X3 are expected to be in between Rs 48 lakh to Rs 55 lakh in India.
