BMW planning to bring back Z1 and Z3 along with new launch of Z5

  • Dec 16, 2014

BMW Z1 lived a rather short life while the Z3 made a run for few years before stopping to roll out from the BMW factory. Now that the market is opening up for such vehicles, BMW has been contemplating on bringing back the Z1 and Z3 roadsters with a higher spec Z5 in the market.

The rumors are kindled from a Spanish media outlet - and the website claims that the new Z1 and Z3 will feature front-wheel drive but not much of information is available about the development.BMW-Z4_Roadster_2014_1600x1200_wallpaper_03 (1)

If BMW decides to go ahead and re-launch the Z1 and the Z3, it would probably use the UKL platform used to underpin the MINI range and few BMW cars. The roadster car may also come in the Coupe form to provide as many alternatives to the customers as possible. The engine will be more of a 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder works with lower power outputs - we think of power output on the lines of MINI vehicles. The power-to-weight ratio though will be pretty good because of the lightweight aluminum construction.

The new Z4 will be a little bigger in size because it will act like a bridge between the Z1 and the Z5 model. Earlier, when the car was launched in 1990s, it attracted a lot of criticism because of design. The reviving models will keep the cloth roofline for lesser weight and a hardtop version of the car is also expected from the company.

The another car - Z5 will be placed on the top segment of the Z- series cars. The Z5 will be competing directly against the performance roadsters from the likes Mercedes-Benz. The higher spec Z5 will get a 6-cylinder power mill and most probably will be one of the first products coming out as a result of BMW-Toyota venture.

The Z5 will also come with hard roof-top coupe version later in the stage. Top-of-the-line Z5 version will get power using the BMW’s i8 technology along with electrical power equipment from Toyota. We are also expecting a M-Powered model to take on the GT-AMG and so on from the company. Come next year and we may see few interesting development happening in the BMW and as always, we would bring you first news from any proceedings.
