BMW launches the new X3 at Rs. 44.9 lakh

  • Aug 28, 2014

BMW has launched the new X3 SUV at a starting price tag of Rs 44.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The face-lifted X3 made its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and replaces the previous model of the X3, which has been on sale in India since 2011. The SUV will now be available in two variants, xDrive 20d Expedition and xDrive 20d xLine, priced at Rs 44.9 lakh and Rs 49.9 lakh respectively (Prices are Ex-showroom, India).

The new X3 is essentially a cosmetic makeover of the outgoing car. Up on the front, the fascia of the new X3 draws similarities with the recently launched all-new BMW X5. New alloy wheel design, restyled bumpers, redesigned tail lamps and ORVMs with side-blinkers complete the exterior updates on the new car.

On the inside, the centre console of the new X3 comes in a high-gloss finish with redesigned upholstery. Features like wood panelling with pearl effect chrome highlights and panaromic glass sunroof further enhance the airiness and premium feel of the car's interiors.

Mechanically, the new X3 retains the same as before powertrain options as on the outgoing model, although, with minor technical tweaks for the new car. The new X3 will be offered in a single diesel engine for both the variants - xDrive 20d engine. This engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mill that produces a maximum power output of 190PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. Compared to the previous model, the power on the new car has been upped by around 7PS and torque is increased by 20 Nm. The oil burner will come mated with an 8-speed steptronic autobox with auto start/stop function as standard.

The new X3 will be locally assembled via CKD kits at BMW’s production facility in Chennai. The new BMW X3 will go against the likes of  current hot favorites in the segment of premium luxury SUVs in India. With the new X3, BMW will also try to make up for the lost ground in terms of annual sales against rival brands like Audi and Mercedes-Benz in India.
