A Day Into Launch, Seltos Waiting Period Stretches To 2 Months

  • Aug 23, 2019

The Kia Seltos was officially introduced in India yesterday, and just a day into its launch, the company has claimed that the waiting period of the midsized sports utility vehicle (SUV) has stretched to two months. According to Kia, the car is in high demand and has already got 35,000 pre-launch bookings. The Seltos is being offered at an ex-showroom introductory price between ₹9.69 lakh to ₹15.99 lakh.

Kia has produced more than 5,000 units of the Seltos, running a single-shift production at its Anantpur workshop. The company now plans to start a double-shift production to cater to the increased demand.

Kia, meanwhile, has officially confirmed that it won’t stop taking bookings for the Seltos. It may be recalled that Morris Garages (MG) had to suspend bookings for its Hector midsized SUV when demand for the car far exceeded the supply. The Hector, according to MG, got more than 21,000 bookings and the company wants to clear the pending orders first. Bookings for the Hector are yet to reopen.

Kia has introduced the Seltos in the Tech Line and GT Line trims with 16 options. The car is being sold in one diesel and two petrol engine options. The Seltos has four sets of transmission options. The entry-level Tech Line HTE trim commands a price of ₹9.69 lakh and ₹9.99 lakh for the petrol and diesel options respectively. The highest price car in the Tech Line is the HTX+ diesel which is pegged at ₹14.99 lakh and ₹15.99 lakh for the manual and automatic versions respectively. The GT Line has an entry-level price of ₹13.49 lakh for the GTX trim. The top-specification GTX+ petrol trim with the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is pegged at ₹15.99 lakh.

The company hasn’t yet announced the price of the top specification GTX+ diesel and petrol AT trims. Kia dealers, however, have commenced bookings for these two versions.
