To enter the compact SUV segment and give the likes of the ever so popular Hyundai Creta and the newly-launched Kia Seltos, Skoda and Volkswagen will bring two brand new SUVs at the 2020 Auto Expo. We are already aware of the India 2.0 project where the two German automakers have come together to form a new entity and grab on to a higher market share in India. It has been about six months since we got the hints of the merger and the result has come out as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd.

Skoda and Volkswagen India have joined hands with Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited that is also responsible for managing the Indian operations of Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche. Underpinned by the MQB A0 platform, both the SUVs will be introduced to the Indian masses at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo. Moreover, we also expect the two SUVs to be based on the globally available VW T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq SUVs.

In addition to the MBQ A0 platform, the two SUVs will be significantly localised and feature the MQB-AO-IN platform. The powertrain on the two cars will be a fresh 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill. While there are high chances of us getting a CNG powertrain, we shouldn't have high hopes of the 1.5-litre diesel engine making it to any of the two new SUVs. While the Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos trying hard to make their presence felt in the Indian market, the Hyundai Creta is already one of the top-selling compact SUVs in the country and will also enter into its next-generation soon enough. Besides, the all-new MG Hector and the recently launched Tata Harrier will also make it a tough battle for the new entrants from Skoda and Volkswagen. While there is still some time for the 2020 Auto Expo to transpire, the things have already started becoming interesting.
