2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto Spotted With Camouflage

  • Feb 14, 2019

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Alto is due for an introduction in the Indian market. The Japanese automaker should be on it after getting free from the formalities of the third-gen Wagon R that launched last month. Though there hasn’t been any confirmation as far as the launch of the new Alto is concerned. However, after implementation of crash test norms in October later this year, Maruti Suzuki will have to discontinue the current-gen Alto due to its low rating. So, we might hear an official word about the new Alto soon.

A camouflaged test mule has been spotted doing rounds around the country, with the HR 26 license plate. Though it does not feature any badge, it seems to be a Maruti. Other things that hint it being an entry-level Maruti are its thin tyres and small size.

The rear section of the test mule is visible in the spy shot, which indicates that the new-gen Alto will come with a micro SUV-like body structure, just like the Renault Kwid. The test mule looks inspired by the Maruti Suzuki’s Future-S concept that the company showcased last year at the Auto Expo in New Delhi.

While there are clues of the new-gen Alto coming, we expect it to underpin the Suzuki’s Heartect A platform that can be seen on the latest Wagon R and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Currently, the Alto is available in two versions with different nameplates, the Alto 800 and the Alto K10. While the former produces 48 PS of max power and 69 Nm of peak torque, the latter churns out 68 PS and 90 Nm of power and torque respectively. Both come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The K10 gets AMT as an option. This time around we expect the company to launch different engines under one nameplate.

Talking about the features, we expect Maruti to bless the next-gen Alto with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD, not essentially as standard but as an option.

As far as pricing is concerned, we expect Maruti Suzuki to increase it, considering that the new version will be slightly more premium than the outgoing model. Currently, the Alto 800 retails at a starting price of Rs 2.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the Alto K10 at Rs 3.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
