Shortly after launching the facelift of ever-popular Baleno, Maruti has carried the facelift to the RS variant as well. Baleno RS is performance oriented and aimed at enthusiasts. The new model sees a price bump of Rs 23,000 over its predecessor and now costs Rs 8.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). If you want the RS over the top spec petrol variant it will cost Rs 1.31 lakh more.

To set itself apart from the regular Baleno, the RS has more imposing looks. It has a redesigned bumper with larger air dams and fog lamp housing. A honeycomb mesh is used for these elements giving it a distinct look over the regular variant. Lighting duties have been upgraded to LED projectors over the bi-xenons in the outgoing model. The overall design of the headlight remains the same though. The 16-inch alloy wheels are now dual tone in nature as with the refreshed regular Baleno. Since no major changes were made to the rear of the Baleno, it is expected that the rear of the RS will have a similar design to the previous version. This is yet to be confirmed as the rear profile was not revealed by Maruti. The feature list on the RS is shared with the Baleno Alpha top spec variant. On the safety front, you get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed warning system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, front seatbelt reminders and rear parking sensors. For your entertainment needs, there is a new 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other miscellaneous features include auto-dimming IRVM, auto AC, rear camera and electric ORVMs. Sportier seat upholstery is also expected in the new RS. One major differentiating factor over the regular Baleno is the inclusion of rear disc brakes.

Coming to the heart of the matter, the RS is propelled by the same 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine as seen in the outgoing model. The little power plant churns out 102PS of power and 150Nm of torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Baleno RS locks horns with the Polo GT and newly launched Tiago JTP.
