Over the last few years, German car manufacturer Audi has completely overhauled its image. It did this by regularly updating its car line-up and instilling them with the latest technologies. The company's flagship model, the A8 is all set to receive some major updates. This fourth generation Audi A8 will make its debut in 2017 and is currently undergoing development. Its test mule was spied recently bearing a production body for the first time.

Even though the vehicle was camouflaged, some things were quite obvious. The design of the next-generation A8 is inspired from the Prologue concept series. Elements like edgy headlamps and the large single-frame front grille are examples of that. From the rear, it was difficult to point out the changes but expect it to be mostly unchanged.

The new A8 will ride on the MLB-Evo platform that underpins the latest Q7 SUV. The company offers a wide range of engine options with the current A8, and the same engines are expected to be utilised for the next-generation model. Although some hybrid solutions like plug-in petrol or plug-in diesel could be added.

The Audi A8 will come loaded with features like OLED tail lights, adaptive air suspension, and fully digital instrumentation.

One of the biggest technological advancement will be the semi-autonomous driving that will enable the car to drive itself on highways at the speeds of up to 60kmph. At the 127th Annual General Meeting, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG said, “By 2025, we will see fully automated driving."

The fourth generation Audi A8 will be launched internationally by 2017. Therefore, we can expect this car to be unveiled in India during the 2018 Auto Expo. This car should give a tough fight to the competition that includes cars like BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class and Jaguar XJ L.
