The upcoming 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire was spotted recently without any wraps or camouflage to hide its curves. GaadiWaadi reports that the car has entered production, which should mean that the car could launch in the coming months.

The Swift DZire is a rare car that hasn't lost its charm among individual buyers despite its growing popularity in the commercial segment. Our sources have confirmed that the next-gen Swift will get LED projector headlights. The same setup could also make way to the DZire's list of features.

The new Swift will use the Baleno's platform, which will result in improved leg room for the back benchers. The longer wheelbase will serve the DZire even better because of its commercial aspect.

Maruti Suzuki has managed to extract good fuel efficiency out of the DZire's engines, and the next-gen model is expected to further push the envelope. The 1.2-litre petrol engine in the DZire makes 84PS of power at 6000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 4000rpm while promising 20.8kmpl. The 1.25-litre diesel engine makes 75PS of power at 4000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Its ARAI-certified fuel efficiency stands at 26.6kmpl. Both the engines are available with a 5-speed manual transmission, but a 4-speed torque converter and a 5-speed AMT are also offered with the petrol and diesel engines, respectively. We can expect these powertrain options to be carried forward to the new DZire, but the 4-speed fuel guzzling torque converter might be replaced by the frugal 5-speed AMT unit that we first saw with the Ignis.

Lately, Maruti Suzuki is running towards the safer side of the fence with its cars. Maruti's newer cars are ready to meet the upcoming crash test norms while the existing ones are being upgraded to comply with the new rules. Expect the Swift DZire to also be ready with the safety features and come with ABS, dual airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters and ISOFIX child seat anchors to be standard equipment

Prices will see a jump given the extra amount of kit and we can expect its LXi variant to start at Rs 5.6 lakh while the ZDi could top out at Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
