When a car maker decides to develop something outrageous out of a road legal production version hatchback, what you get is an astounding piece of engineering put together with ingenuity. Such a noteworthy example is the Honda Jazz RS. Now, this is not your off-the-mill compact with RS badging and some exterior/interior additions. This is a fully blown racing concept based on the existing model of the Jazz. You read that right!

Starting from the outside, the Jazz Racing Concept gets lowered wide body kit coupled with racing mag wheels and race-spec bridgestone slick tyres. The contouring silhouette depicts that this is one car to be seriously dealt with. Powered by the 1.5 litre i-VTEC motor, the Jazz RS churns out a whopping 182PS and 190Nm of torque that is mated to a five-speed short ratio manual gearbox. In sports car terms, these figures may not seem much, however, considering the weight that is expected to be less, the monster hatch will have a very impressive sprint to 100 kmph. Unfortunately, figures were not revealed.

To adapt to the 1.5 litre petrol engine, a custom ECU with a high-flow air intake and a straight pipe DCAT non-resonated exhausted is also installed. Instead of the regular spark plugs, Iridium spark plugs are a part of the package. Braking is courtesy disc brakes on all four wheels with ABS and EBD. Now, we are not looking at top speed but attacking corners with arrow-precision. To do that, the Jazz RS is equipped with TEIN racing suspension with adjustable dampers and coilovers.

On the inside, all you get is a Recaro racing seat with OMP steering wheel, roll cage, and racing pedals as the rest has been stripped to shed weight. On the safety front, a manually controllable Emergency Race Assist Switch, that cuts off supply to all electronic and mechnical equipments of the concept in the event of an accident, is also installed.

Would we see a production version of this in our country. Maybe not! However, it is a sure eye candy at the 2016 Auto Expo.

We don't have a showcase video of the Jazz RS yet, but here is a video of the upcoming Honda BR-V. So take a look!
