The mid-size sedan was VW Group's best selling model for 2013 and the mid-life refresh is aimed at keeping pace with the rivals in terms of fuel efficiency and equipment level.

The 2015 VW Jetta can be identified by a revised front grill which has three horizontal slats finished chrome and new headlamps which offer Bi-xenon modules and L-shaped LED daytime running lights in upmarket variants. The new bumper with larger airdam, revised foglamps and a chrome strip gives the car a wider stance.

Changes to the side are limited to the new alloy wheel patterns while the rear fascia has an unmistakable Audi-ness to it. The shapes of taillights (LED treatment for GLI and Hybrid variants) and boot lid are almost direct lift from the A4 sedan! VW claims that the visual changes, especially the active radiator shutter, have contributed to enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.

The changes to the interior is also subtle. Based on the trim level you get instrument console with chrome highlights, new multi-function steering wheel with flat bottom, redesigned aircon vents, piano black accents on the center console and around the gear shift lever, chrome trim around the dual-zone Climatronic control, ambient lighting, and new fabric colors and designs for the seats.

VW has used the facelift opportunity to load the Jetta with new equipment such as Blind Spot Detection, frontal collision warning and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Jetta continues to use the existing set of powertrains albeit with minor tweaks to improve the fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The petrol lineup includes a 1.8-litre TSI, a 2.0-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre normally aspirated engine. The US-spec Jetta is also available with an improved 2.0-litre TDI Clean Diesel engine and a hybrid version which employs a 1.4-litre TSI motor.

The 150 PS 2.o-litre TDI diesel engine now conforms to future LEV3 emission norms and delivers a combined FE of 37 mpg (15.66 kmpl). The lower emission level is achieved by the use of Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system which significantly reduces NOx emission.

The 2015 VW Jetta is expected to arrive at the US dealerships by third quarter of 2014. The international markets should get the facelifted version at the later part of this year.
