Today happens to the 176th birth anniversary of JN Tata, the man who founded one of India’s most significant companies. On this occasion, Tata Motors seems to be celebrating the day quite well. The company launched the new SuperAce Mint small commercial vehicle in India. And then took the wraps off a sporty version of its new Bolt hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show.

The new Tata Bolt Sport that has been showcased is powered by the standard car’s new Revotron 1.2 litre, turbocharged, four cylinder petrol engine. Although, in the Bolt Sport this engine is tuned to develop 121PS of peak power @ 5,500 rpm and 170Nm of peak torque between 2,000 rpm and 3,500 rpm. The engine continues to be mated to the Bolt’s five-speed manual gearbox. The engine features multiple drive modes in the form of Eco, City and Sport. The bump up in power has been achieved courtesy a remapped ECU and redesigned exhaust.

To match the added going power, Tata has spruced up the looks of the Bolt Sport with a larger and more angular front bumper with a hexagonal air dam and pronounced lower lip. The side profile gets chrome garnished gills and a lower body kit. There is also a swooping design cue running from the gills upwards to the door handles. Then there are the new 17inch multi spoke alloy wheels. The car also comes with a sun roof. Around the back, there is a sportier bumper with air passages, black plastic finish below and twin tail pipes.

The interiors of the car are upholstered in black leather with contrast red stitching, aluminum pedals. Equipment is on par with the standard model, apart from the sun roof. On the safety front, the Bolt Sport comes with ABS, dual front airbags and corner stability control.

There is no word of the Tata Bolt Sport being launched in India. But with the presence of the Volkswagen Polo GT models, the Bolt Sport does make sense for us considering that it would be quite a bit more affordable than the German models.
