The BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine dishing out 231PS of peak power. The total output of the car is 362PS. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission while the electric motor powers the front wheels via a two-stage automatic gearbox. The i8 delivers a maximum torque of 570Nm that pushes this car ahead with force. 0-100kmph is done in about 4.4 seconds, and the i8 can manage a top speed of 250kmph. It has a driving range of almost 500km. Interestingly, the i8 can run on only electric power for up to 35km, but speeds are limited to 120kmph in that case.

The BMW i8 is almost as big as an Audi R8, with the total length being 4689mm. It is 1943mm wide and looks futuristic from the outside. The quirkiest and the most striking element in the i8's exterior design is its scissor doors that open upwards.

The futuristic exterior design paves the way for a futuristic interior as well. BMW has put in its iDrive infotainment system that takes care of car's navigation, entertainment, connectivity and climate control functions by using a knob located on the centre console. The instrument cluster is a digital screen that also provides information about the hybrid powertrain and its working.

You can opt for Connected Drive driver assistance package with a 360-degree camera system, collision warning with automated braking and high beam assistant.

The BMW i8 is the only plug-in hybrid sports car and doesn't have any competition at the moment. It is priced at Rs 2.14 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
