Marking a return for the uber-luxurious brand in India, Mercedes-Benz has just launched the Mercedes-Maybach S600 at Rs. 2.6 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). Termed as the ‘World’s Quietest Production Saloon’, the S600 is one of the best limo that money can buy in the country at present. The other variant of the Mercedes-Maybach, i.e., S500 has been priced at Rs. 1.67 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). The bigger S600 is being brought into the country as a CBU, but the smaller S500 will be assembled in our country only.

One look at the vehicle and you will quickly realize that this is one hell of a limousine. The S600 is actually longer than the long wheelbase version of the S-Class by as much as 200mm. The front end is reminiscent of the S-Class, carrying the characteristic Mercedes styling. The stretched out side profile oozes of premium-ness with the cool looking alloy wheels (in three different options - 19-inch multi spoke, 19-inch 5 twin spoke, 19-inch multi twin spoke), chrome lining in the windows and the Maybach logo on the C-pillar. Rear end is similar to that of the S-Class as well, except for the Maybach badging and slightly tweaked bumpers that house two twin barreled exhausts at separate ends.

The two Maybachs come in 9 different colours - Magnetite Black, Obsidian Black, Iridium Silver, Cavansite Blue, Peridot Brown, Ruby Black, Diamond Silver, Anthracite Blue and Designo Diamond White.

Engine and Performance

Powering the Maybach S600 is a massive 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V12 petrol engine that produces 537.4PS of power between 4,900 to 5,300 RPM and 830 Nm of peak torque from 1,900 to 4,000 RPM. The humongous amount of power is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed Tronic Plus automatic transmission propelling the vehicle to 100 km/hr from standstill in 5 seconds, going all the way up to a top-speed of 250 km/hr. Though many wouldn’t care about mileage figures for a vehicle costing this much, but the S600 returns around 5.53 km/l in the city and about 8.5 km/l out on the highway. The Maybach S500 on the other hand is powered by a 4663cc, V8 engine that churns out 465.4PS of power from 5,250 to 5,500 RPM and 700 Nm of peak torque between 1,800 to 3,500 RPM.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 luxury sedan is literally the epitome of automotive engineering that immaculately blends luxury, quality and comfort in a perfect combination. The vehicle will surely find quite a few buyers in the country given the popularity of the Maybach nameplate. It competes with the likes of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost in the ultra-luxury saloon space. It is interesting to note that the S600 has already been sold out for this year. One will have to wait for another year if planning to buy one.
