BMW to launch i8 in India on 18th February

The BMW i8 is officially entering Indian territory on February 18. The hybrid supercar made ripples around the world because of its out-of-the-box design and state-of-the-art technology. The BMW i8 will become the first ever hybrid supercar of India. BMW showcased the car the Auto Expo 2014 and at few dealerships before that.BMW-i8_2015_1024x768_wallpaper_01


The hybrid powertrain includes a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine and an electric motor. The Internal Combustion Engine produces a maximum of 231 PS while the electric motor produces a maximum of 131 PS. Working together, the car get a maximum of 360 horsepower and massive 570 Nm of maximum torque. On pure electric mode, the car can do 37 KM and BMW certifies that the life of the batteries will be as long as the life of the car. The electric transfers power to the front wheels via 2-speed transmission while the petrol engine feeds the rear wheel via 6-speed gearbox. The extensive use of carbon fibre makes sure that the weight of car is limited to only 1,485 kg.


The hybrid supercar can do 100km/h from standstill in just 4.4 seconds but the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. BMW says the car can return a mileage of 20 km/l in city conditions, making the i8 most fuel efficient car in the world.BMW-i8_2015_1600x1200_wallpaper_a1


The car looks like it has traveled from the future and the equipments in the car matches the exterior looks. There is 2+2 seating arrangement in the car and a very high tech dashboard along with futuristic laser headlamps.


In India, the car will be available only in limited numbers. BMW allotted few number of cars to every country to meet the demand. This exclusive package will cost around Rs. 2 crore. BMW is also planning to launch the i3 in India soon.
