BMW India is gearing up to launch the 2015 model year X3 in the country. The 2015 BMW X3 is essentially the same second generation X3 that is currently on sale in the country, albeit with some cosmetic changes along with the introduction of a new variant that is quite significant to the Indian market.

On the face of things, the refreshed BMW X3 gets new front and rear bumpers, new alloy wheels, new side moldings on the lower sections of the doors along with new kidney grilles and double barrel headlights that stretch outwards from the grilles. This gives the new BMW X3 a fresh face and brings it in line with BMW’s new family design language. There are also new outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators.

On the inside, the face-lifted BMW X3 comes trimmed with new materials to lend a more premium appeal along with chrome garnish. The HVAC controls and display have been redesigned and the cup holders in the centre console can now be covered.

Here in India, the BMW X3 is available in two variants, one with a 2.0 litre diesel engine and the other with a 3.0 litre diesel engine. The BMW X3 xDrive 20d is currently priced at Rs. 42.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo diesel engine under the hood of the X3 xDrive 20d churns out 186PS of peak power @ 4,000 rpm and 380Nm of peak torque @ 1,750 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The BMW X3 xDrive 20d has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency figure of 16.09 km/l.

Priced at Rs. 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the BMW X3 XDrive 30d as the name suggests has a 3.0 litre engine that in BMW fashion has a straight six cylinder configuration. The engine develops 261PS of peak power @ 4,000 rpm and 560Nm of peak torque @ 2,000 rpm.

Now going back to the introduction of the story, I mentioned that a new version of the X3 has been added to the 2015 BMW X3 model line-up, that new version is a rear-wheel drive only model.

Launching this new variant for the xDrive 20d model in India will allow BMW to further lower the price of the BMW X3 in India, thereby making it a more attractive proposition for those looking to buy a luxury SUV, as very few owners that their luxury SUV off-roading in the first place.
