Ford Fiesta is one of the hottest selling sedans in the market today and primarily due to its long run in India. It has been around and is a household name for performance and build quality and the new iteration of the Fiesta brings all the same and a lot more other features. Today we compare it to one of the best sedans from the premium mid size sedan segment and find out how the Ford Fiesta compares with its rival from Volkswagen. VW Vento is a good looking car that brings the best of German engineering to the India.

Looks and design:


Ford’s new fiesta is one of the best looking cars in the market today thanks to its contemporary design elements comprising of its new trapezoid grill and swept back multi-element headlamps which give the car a very aggressive yet sporty looks. It has body colored bumpers with chrome tipped fog lamp housing and the roof swooping over to the back as a single long arc looks fantastic on the new Fiesta. It bears a proportionate design which is quite stylish and the angled up rear styling brings out Ford’s new design elements very well. The new Fiesta premium mid size sedan brings excellent build quality to the segment and the paintjob is fantastic. It is a car that appeals to everyone and has won many hearts.


Volkswagen Vento is a fantastic looking premium mid size sedan in the market today and brings its European, contemporary design theme to the market segment and competes with some of the best looking cars in India today. It bears a slightly simple and understated design whose neutral lines and structure pleases everybody. Vento’s front design looks similar to the Polo since its bears the VW basic design cues but the Vento sedan brings different and better looking fog lamps and air dam. Vento has a long wheelbase and that gives it an excellent road presence which when combined with its low slung and wide stance gives it aggressive looks from the front. It brings the traditional German build high quality and fantastic paint job.

Interiors – design, space and features:


Ford Fiesta has very good quality interiors and tries to match up to its German counterpart. But it has a lot more new and high tech features and gadgetry which gives you taste of luxury and impresses you in every way. Fiesta has very generous cabin space and comfortable seats which easily accommodates 5 people. It has high quality upholstery and plastics which give premium feel to the interiors. It has a very modern yet classy looking instrument console which display the MID along with speedometer and tachometer reading. Fiesta sports the following features voice activated controls, auto-fold electric RVMs, dual front air bags, height adjustable driver seats, 6 speaker stereo music system with USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth compatibilities. It also includes automatic electronic climate control, steering mounted audio and cruise control. Fiesta also comes with storage spaces inside the car and 430 liters of boot space.


Volkswagen Vento brings excellent new features to the market which is already overcrowded with some excellent cars. It has comfortable seats which will easily seat 5 passengers and offers a spacious cabin and plenty of leg room and head room for all the passengers inside. The seats also offer excellent back support with the driver’s seat having height adjustment capability. Vento also brings features such as dual airbags, alloy wheels, climate control, keyless entry, power windows, electric RVMs, security system, height adjustable driver seats. It also comes with MP3/CD music system, rear arm rests and other bits. Vento has many storage areas for your knick knacks and a generous boot space of 500 liters.

Ford Fiesta is available in a fantastic diesel engine variant and the Fiesta diesel version is powered by a 1.5 liter Duratorq TDCi engine which develops a healthy 90 BHP at 3750 RPM and 204 NM of torque at 2000-2750 RPM. It’s a quiet engine and ARAI has rated it to deliver a fuel efficiency of 23.5 kmpl which is fantastic for a performer like the Fiesta. It has ample power of highway runs and will cruise at high speeds for the entire day if required. It doesn’t feel underpowered in anyway although it does come a little short on power as compared to its German equivalent from VW. Nevertheless it’s an excellent car to buy and comes with a reliable and low noise and vibration producing engine.


Volkswagen Vento Diesel is brings class leading power figures to the C segment. The 1.6 liter DOHC 4 cylinder diesel engine produces 104 BHP at 4400 RPM and produces a massive torque of 250 NM from 1500 RPM – 2500 RPM. This powerful engine is mated to a 5 speed gear box which has perfect gear ratios and gives excellent drivability to this great sedan. The power figures ensures ease of use and makes it perfect car to drive or be driven around the city. It also packs a lot of punch for high runs and has a big advantage thanks to all that extra torque available. It delivers a maximum fuel efficiency of 20.54 kmpl as certified by ARAI

Suspension – Ride, comfort and handling:


Ford Fiesta has been a driver’s car for all the years that it has been in production in India and the latest car comes with a firm suspension which gives it excellent handling characteristics without compromising on ride quality. It offers a low noise and vibration free cabin environment and ensures a comfortable drive. The suspension allows the car the glide over bad roads and on good ones it maintains a cushy ride giving much need comfort to the passengers India. The new Fiesta has minimal body roll which is well controlled and is well planted through the corners. It brings ABS + EBD which helps it maintain its composure under hard braking and manages to keep you safe during emergencies.


Volkswagen Vento offers very good ride quality which remains a little stiff on our roads partly due to the firmer suspension settings which VW have chosen to give and it helps in keeping the car extremely stable at high speeds while at low speeds it manages to retain its comfort level. It absorbs all the undulations on the road and despite the low ground clearance manages to glide over speed breakers without a fuss. It loves to go around corners and despite its length has well controlled body roll which again is very minimal. It offers very good feedback from its steering unit and also brings ABS + EBD to help slow it down from the insanely fast speeds it is capable of achieving thanks to the monstrous amount of torque produced by the engine.

Ford Fiesta is a great car and comes loaded with features. The diesel variant is priced from 9.28 lakhs for the base model Ford Fiesta Diesel Style, 9.78 lakhs for Ford Fiesta Diesel Trend and 9.99 lakhs for the Ford Fiesta Diesel Titanium while the top variant Ford Fiesta Diesel Titanium Plus has been priced at 10.42 lakhs. The pricing makes it an exciting car at great value for money and recommended buy for everyone looking to buy a good mid-size sedan in the market today. It brings a reliable engine and Ford service is available in more cities than VW and that makes living with the car that much easier.

Volkswagen Vento is one of the hottest selling sedans in the country. But the long term ownership cost of the Vento is still uncharted territory. It is new to the market and is not a tried and tested product such as its competitor. It is however a very good car and Vento Diesel has been priced (ex-showroom Delhi) from 8.19 lakhs for the entry level Vento Trendline while the middle variant Vento Breeze has been priced at 99.19 lakhs while the top end Volkswagen Vento Highline has been priced at 9.43 lakhs.

Ford Fiesta is an all rounder and a tried and tested car in India. It has been a crowd favorite for a very long time thanks to its excellent performance and handling and superb features and very good value for money. The new Fiesta retains all this and brings more goodies and is one again climbing the sales charts leaving its rivals in the dust. VW on the other hand manufactures very good cars and Volkswagen Vento is one such car that is reliable and a great overall performer. VW has only recently started their operation in India and therefore have about 50 dealers at the moment and that number is expected to grow quickly over the year or so. Both the cars are good value for money and bring world class features at very good price.
