UM with its Renegade Commando was smart enough to fill the void between the affordable cruisers and the expensive ones. We do have the Royal Enfield Thunderbird which is available at around the same price point but looking at its stance you will agree, it doesn't look like a low slung cruiser at all. Renegade Commando Classic shares almost the same specs with its sibling the Renegade Commando. While the Commando is designed as a hardcore cruiser, the Commando Classic is more of a laid back cruiser with a retro look. UM Renegade Commando Classic attract riders who wish to own a modern bike with a classic look. The bike gets a special dual paint of Copper White which looks really classy and retro. To add to the classy look lot of parts are done in chrome and the bike comes with unique saddle bags as standard. Full windshield and white pinstriping on the the tank completes the retro look. It does face stiff competition from the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350, the Bajaj Dominar 400, and the Mahindra Mojo. The UM Renegade Commando Classic is a really beautiful looking bike with a retro design. According to UM, the American dream to unleash freedom with just the turn of the throttle, is the source of inspiration for the Renegade Commando Classic. There are prominent changes on the bike but the basic silhouette of the Renegade Commando remains the same. The cruiser comes with a high quality 45+ micron rich gloss and the stainless-steel chrome shows sophistication and class. The special dual paint of Copper White looks very premium. For unmatched comfort the Renegade Commando Classic comes with exquisite high-density seat covers, premium pillion cushion and a first-grade aluminium cast backrest. When on the highway get matchless safety from the wind and the debris, with high-quality resin windshield. The premium touring bag comes as standard has dual zippers and an easy to open flap. The high-capacity bag comes mounted on a sturdy metal bracket, that keeps it from sagging down. It also has a special tank mounted zippered pouch that can carry your mobile phone & a camera with ease and convenience. Ergonomics are typical of what you would find on cruiser motorcycles and are designed to comfortably cover long distances.
You get a terrific performance and a comfortable ride with the UM Renegade Commando Classic. This classic bike is fitted with an BSIV compliant, single Cylinder, 4 stroke, 4 valve, liquid cooled, spark ignition, 279.5cc engine. UM Renegade currently is the only one in its class to sport the liquid cooled technology in its engine. The engine is mated with 6 speed, synchronous mesh overdrive gearbox which gives you a smooth riding experience in spite of the high revving nature of engine. The engine churns out 25.15PS of power at 8500rpm and 23 Nm of torque at 7000rpm which feels very powerful to ride. It never feels short on power and feels like a street roadster as the gear shifts are smooth and power delivery is linear. The cruising experience is also further enhanced with the presence of the overdrive gear that ensures the engine is never stressed.
The UM Renegade Commando Classic is designed like a retro cruiser but handles like a modern cruiser. To ensure a plush ride, the bike on the front it has 4mm hydraulic telescopic forks and at the rear has twin hydraulic coil springs. It provides comfort while riding long rides on highways and also takes care of the little bumps in the city with ease. To help bike stop at high speed safely it has a 280mm disc, 2 piston caliper up front and at the rear a conventional 130mm drum. It does lack the much needed Antilock Braking System (ABS) and the rear disc brake. The wide 110/90 section tyres covers the large 16-inch front wheel and a wider 140/90 section tyres in the rear cover the 15-inch wheel. These wide tyres provide decent grip on all types of road surface and increases the confidence of the rider. In city conditions it may be difficult to maneuver the Commando Classic due to its heavy weight around 179kgs. But it is well controlled even at high speeds on the highway.
The UM Renegade Commando Classic now has the mandatory Always Headlight On (AHO) feature integrated in its headlight. This feature improves the visibility and increases the safety of the rider while riding conditions in any weather. To improve the rider comfort and safety, the UM Renegade Commando Classic comes with grippy wide front and rear tyres. With front disc brakes installed on the bike stopping on high speed is now safe and easy. The Commando Classic also come with a huge windshield that protects the rider from windblast and road debris.
