Zeppelin Expert Review

Here is what our experts feel about Zeppelin

One of the most buzzing booths of the Auto Expo 2018 was that of TVS, thanks to its new concept, the Zeppelin and the electric scooter, the Creon. The Zeppelin is TVS’ first performance cruiser concept which flaunts sporty, aggressive looks, and a modern cruiser styling. It has a beefy vertically-oriented LED headlamp, a 41mm gold front fork, flat handlebar, long belly fairing, stepped seat, and large rear tyre hugger that add to the sportiness of the bike. Some of the standout features include a compact semi-digital instrument console, LED lights, Bio-key, infotainment unit with cloud connectivity and an integrated action camera to capture your ride videos. The last feature will certainly attract a lot of youth and riding enthusiasts, however, it would be difficult for TVS to include it in production due to the cost constraints.

The Zeppelin concept is powered by a 220cc, single cylinder engine that makes 20PS of max power at 8,500rpm and 18.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm, mated to a five-speed gearbox. It uses a patented Integrated Starter Generator system, called the E-Boost, which comprises of a 1200W electric generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery that is charged via the motor. The technology is similar to the Maruti’s SHVS mild hybrid system, but sized down for a two-wheeler. TVS claims that it will boost the engine's performance and fuel efficiency. The performance cruiser concept gets a unique belt drive function as opposed to a chain drive which makes it a low-maintenance and silent bike. A few of the components like the front forks, front brake setup and the switchgear are all identical to the Apache RR 310.

It is expected that TVS will launch the Zeppelin concept in early 2019 and if we go by all the features, it is estimated to come with a price tag of around 1.2 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). That said, we might see a few features being dropped off, to manage the price and line it up against the Bajaj Avenger 220 range and the Suzuki Intruder 150.
