TVS as a company is so involved in two-wheeler motorsport, as it was the first one to bring circuit racing within the reach of larger racing enthusiasts. With TVS Racing training academy, the company has been actively involved in providing opportunities to new talent. Staying committed to two-wheeler racing, and true to its racing genes the company showcased the TVS Akula 310 Race Concept at Delhi Auto Expo 2016 that was built with inputs from the company's race drivers and using advanced technologies to make it a true racing machine. Akula, which means shark in Russian, was an apt name as it looked like a shark and featured the same engine that powered the BMW G 310 R. Akula went on to win the most coveted award, the ‘Best Concept Bike” at Auto Expo 2016. After the auto Expo, people now were eagerly waiting for TVS to launch this stunning bike. And just a year later, TVS launched the Apache RR 310 on 6th December, 2017. This fastest TVS bike is very special, not because of it sheer stunning looks but this a no nonsense race machine with no compromises made. The bike may not be as powerful as its rival RC390, but sure gives it a tough competition with those amazing looks, comfortable riding posture and a host of tech advancement that was never seen on any bike from an Indian manufacturer. Other competitors are the Kawasaki Ninja 300, Benelli 302R and Yamaha YZF-R3 which way too pricey than the Apache RR 310. TVS Apache RR 310 is available in only one variant for Rs.2,23,045 (Price ex-showroom, Delhi)
One look at the Apache RR 310 and you will fall in love with it as it is one of the most beautiful looking bikes designed in India. The bike gets inspiration from the deadliest predator, the Shark which is clearly evident in its aggressive design of the raked-high tail and ‘Mass- Forward’ design. RR 310, most powerful Apache till now, is based on the Akula Concept that still retains 85 percent of its concept design, which is huge deal as a lot of concepts don’t even make it to the production. On the front, it comes equipped with Bi-LED twin projector headlamps which not only look stunning when lit up but also offer slightly better light throw than the RC390. Shark inspiration is carried in the all LED signature tail light at the rear end which looks very menacing and attractive. Seat is comfortable for the rider even in city conditions and is bearable for the pillion, but is better than the RC390’s. Instrument cluster is vertical race inspired one, with the usual speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge alongwith race specific features like a top speed recorder, lap timer, launch time recorder and race diagnostics for a detailed post-ride analysis. No matter which colour you choose, the sporty Racing Red or the stealth Racing Black, the bike is a sure to turn heads, wherever you go.
TVS Apache RR 310 has gone 300 hours of wind-tunnel testing and as a result, the bike achieves lowest drag coefficient. Powering this fabulous bike is the 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that also installed in the BMW G 310 R and makes max power of 34PS at 9500rpm with a peak torque of 27.3Nm of torque at 7500rpm. This unique reverse inclined DOHC engine results in mass centralization and hence delivers the best-in-class power-to-weight ratio. Engine is mated to a bottom mounted 6-speed shifter with negative back-rake angle that makes no slippage at higher speeds for precision shifts and avoids false neutrals too. It can be easily ridden in the city even on higher gears, as the engine is very tractable. With a top speed of 160kmph, the bike affords to return a mileage of 31kmpl. Fuel tank capacity is 11 litres and is decent enough for this sports bike.
Patented Deflector Cowl on the bike along with specially designed gill vents channel hot air away from the engine, giving higher ride comfort. Split handles on the bike are comfortable enough for the city rides and aggressive enough for those races during track days. Suspension setup includes non-adjustable upside down forks at the front and a KYB monoshock with monotube floating piston technology at the rear. This rear suspension provides precise damping with smooth dynamic response to achieve class leading lateral acceleration and cornering speeds. With a dual-channel ABS system from Continental as standard, braking power is commanded by 300mm disc with radially mounted Brembo callipers at the front and a rear 240mm disc brake, which provides amazing stopping power. Apache RR 310 races on the 5-spoke 17-inch alloys which are covered in Michelin Pilot Street radial tyre of 110/70 R17 section at the front and 150/60 R17 section at the rear. They offer good grip on dry roads, but are not amazing as the sticky Metzeler or the Pirelli.
TVS Apache RR 310 comes with class leading Bi-LED twin projector headlamps that offers intense light throw that enables you to ride ride with confidence at higher speeds during day or night. These projector headlamps lits up as soon as you start the bike as it is compliant to BSIV safety requirement of AHO. Dual-channel ABS unit is standard on the Apache RR 310, that provides the rider with traction on any road surface and peace of mind with optimum safety.
