Here is what our experts feel about Intruder
Cruiser market in India has always dominated by very few companies. Royal Enfield rules the 350-500cc touring-cruising market whereas the Bajaj Avenger rules the 150-220cc market. There was no challenger to the tried and tested Avenger. Even Yamaha tried their luck with the Enticer and failed miserably. Now with the market opening up to touring and cruiser bikes, Suzuki saw the opportunity to launch a small capacity cruiser. With the Gixxer portfolio growing strong the company decided to base this new cruise on the same platform and use the same engine too. The design is inspired by the big brother Suzuki Intruder M1800R. It looks very bold, stylish and competes with the champion Bajaj Avenger series which currently rules the market with its Street and Cruise variants. Suzuki Intruder 150 is available in two options, first is the standard variant Intruder, priced at Rs.99,995 and other is the exclusive Intruder FI variant, which retails at Rs.1,06,896.
Suzuki Intruder 150 with its design elements has enough visual presence to grab eyeballs. The Intruder M1800R profoundly inspires the design as informed, uses many of its elements which makes it bulgy yet modern. Up front, you have the triangular-shaped headlamp with LED DRLs that is surrounded by a large cowl, is very similar to the one on the Intruder M1800R. Moving on the side, you see a humongous tank with massive extensions which mostly looks like an overkill. Seats are curvy, wide, and are the most comfortable in the segment. You also get a premium Intruder badging on the side that adds glitter to its overall visual appeal. At the end is a uniquely designed dual-exhaust set up for improved exhaust efficiency. On the rear, a compact LED tail lamp looks very attractive and neat. The instrument cluster on the Intruder 150 is the same as the Gixxer, a smart full-digital meter with the same RPM indicator as that for Hayabusa. LCD display is quite compact and clearly displays all the necessary readings to the rider. A unique “READY GO” text appears whenever the ignition is turned on immediately after the animation on the display ends. The two colour choices available for this bike are Metallic Gray and Glass Sparkle Black.
Intruder 150 is powered by the same engine that powers the Gixxer range. The 154.9cc, 4-stroke, 1-cylinder, air-cooled engine churns out 14.8PS of max power at 8000rpm and 14Nm of peak torque at 6000rpm. As you can see even the power figures are the same as the Gixxer range. The fuel system is either carburetted or via fuel injection which improves fuel efficiency and throttle response. There are 6 sensors to calculate data in real time to provide an optimum amount of fuel to be injected. This results in better fuel efficiency of 48kmpl and precise throttle response. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox for a smooth transition of power. Fuel tank capacity is at 11 litres.
Suspension setup is very capable and reliable as it can placidly pass over the humps and undulations on the roads. At the front are telescopic forks while the rear is handled by a swing arm mono-shock absorber. The braking duties are taken care of by disc brakes at both the ends. That's not all, ABS comes as standard on this premium bike. Alloys are same as the Gixxer’s Y type 17-inch on both ends with section 100/80 tubeless tyre on the front while the rear gets a radial tubeless tyre of section 140/60R
Safety and confidence are provided to the rider and the pillion via the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) that comes as standard on the Intruder 150. It prevents locking of wheels and automatically controls the braking force on slippery roads. ABS is also useful in rough road conditions or when brakes are applied suddenly. Contributing significantly to the safety front are the discs at both the ends. Safety is even enhanced by the use of AHO feature in the headlight. This mandatory feature helps the bike stay visible in all light conditions.
