The KTM 1050 Adventure is one of the most exciting adventure bikes in the Austrian manufacturer’s lineup. The motorcycle is essentially the successor to the 990 Adventure that made its global debut at the 2014 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Powering the KTM 1050 Adventure is a 1050cc, V-twin engine that offers a promising and fun-filled performance. The motorcycle packs in a lot of features in the form of ABS, multiple riding modes, traction control and more. The 1050 Adventure also gets adjustable footpegs, windscreen and handlebar and hence, the rider can set multiple parts on the bike as per the convenience. The KTM 1050 Adventure rides on 19-inch wheel up front along with a 17-inch unit at the rear. The bike has a generous fuel tank having 23-litre capacity and tips the scale at 212 kg. The sad part is that the KTM 1050 Adventure is not available in India as of now but is expected to arrive soon as its launch has already been confirmed officially by KTM. As the market for high-end ADVs started to flourish here lately, KTM might see an opportunity of launching the 1050 Adventure here sooner than expected. The motorcycle challenges the likes of Honda Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger 800 and Kawasaki Versys 1000 in the segment. The KTM 1050 Adventure is expected to come with a competitive price tag if locally assembled here and a figure of under Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom) will be killer.
As one would normally expect from a typical KTM adventurer tourer, the 1050 Adventure gets an aggressive styling that contributes to its character. The front end of the motorcycle gets a sharp headlamp section and the taller windscreen makes sure that the rider stays protected from wind blasts at high speeds. The sharp character lines on the fuel tank along with a neatly chiselled semi fairing make the bike look sporty. Moving on to the rear, the KTM 1050 Adventure gets an upswept exhaust that not only sounds exhilarating but also adds to the visual appeal. Overall, the KTM 1050 Adventure has a strong road presence and looks promising enough to take on any terrain with ease.
Powering the KTM 1050 Adventure, as the name suggests is a 1050cc, twin cylinder engine mated to a six-speed transmission system. The fuel injected motor is good for producing a maximum power output of 94 bhp. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike gets three riding modes namely Sport, Street, and Rain so that the rider can adjust the riding behaviour of the bike as per his or her requirements. The gearbox is further linked to a slipper clutch that minimises the effects of engine braking during aggressive downshifts. While initially, you may feel that the 1050 Adventure may not be the right pick considering the fact that competition has come up with machines offering better power output and more features, the KTM might do the trick for the company in India if priced well.
As they say, with great power comes great responsibility, the KTM 1050 Adventure gets twin 320mm disc brakes up front along with a single 267mm disc brake at the rear for commendable stopping power. These further come linked to a Bosch dual-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) for added safety and more effective braking. If you are an off-road fanatic, no need to be disappointed as the ABS on the bike can be switched off. Being a dual purpose adventure tourer, the KTM 1050 Adventure offers ample comfort for long rides, all thanks to the well-padded seat and an upright riding position. The suspension system on the motorcycle comprises of WP upside down forks up front along with a WP monoshock at the rear. The KTM 1050 Adventure sits on a trellis frame that not just adds to the aesthetics but contributes to structural efficiency as well. All thanks to this, the bike has commendable straight-line stability and maintains its composure while rigorous off-roading.
In terms of safety, the KTM 1050 Adventure gets dual disc brakes up front along with a single disc brake at the rear. These offer impressive stopping power and bring the bike to a halt as and when required. Furthermore, these are coupled to a dual-channel ABS to prevent those lock-ups under panic braking and emergency situations. The KTM 1050 Adventure also gets a traction control along with three riding modes and all this electronic intervention makes sure that the motorcycle is not only high on fun but safety too.
