Z900 Expert Review

Here is what our experts feel about Z900

Kawasaki Z900 is one of the most aggressive naked streetfighter motorcycles that you can buy in India. The motorcycle has replaced the Z800 in the Japanese manufacturer’s portfolio and almost everything is new on the Kawasaki Z900 when one talks about the leap from the Z800 to the Z900. This way, the company intends to offer more in almost every way to the customers with the Z900 and in this way, discontinuation of the Z800 makes proper sense. The motorcycle gets an aggressive design language and many people admire and purchase the Z900 just because of the way it looks. In terms of equipment, the Kawasaki Z900 gets an ABS and gets the least sound electronics package when compared to the competition. However, the motorcycle shines in terms of engine performance and ride quality and has its own benefits being a true blue Kwacker. Powering the Kawasaki Z900 is the reworked engine from its elder sibling Z1000 with a smaller bore. As one would normally expect, the Z900 offers higher power and torque outputs compared to the Z800. The Kawasaki Z900 can be yours in India for a price of Rs 7.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available for sale in three colour options. The motorcycle rubs shoulders against the likes of Suzuki GSX-S750, Ducati Monster 821, Yamaha MT-09 and the Triumph Street Triple S in the high-end streetfighter territory.

When it comes to design and appearance, the Kawasaki Z900 has all the ingredients of a cheerful naked streetfighter. The front end of the motorcycle gets a sharp headlamp that well compliments the overall body styling. The well-chiseled fuel tank along with the edgy tank extensions and the exposed steel trellis frame are some of the highlights that contribute in making the bike come across as a pure looker. The Z900 gets twin split step-up seats that not only enhance the visuals but come well padded too. The rear end of the motorcycle gets a stubby exhaust, the design of which compliments the overall styling of the motorcycle as it gets aggressive design cues too. The bike gets a Z-shaped LED tail lamp that further takes the appeal to a whole new level. The bike gets a fully digital instrument cluster with an easy to read layout and shows all the necessary read-outs.

The Kawasaki Z900 draws power from a 948cc, inline four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed transmission. The fuel-injected engine is good for churning out a maximum power output of 125PS while the peak torque output is rated at 98.6Nm. The motorcycle gets an easy electric starter for better convenience. The power output of the engine fitted on the Z900 offers 12 horsepower more compared to the Z800 while the peak torque has also risen by 17Nm. The gearbox on the Z900 gets a slipper clutch as well that minimizes the effects of engine braking during aggressive downshifts, thus eventually resulting in better speeds at corner entries.

The stopping power to the Kawasaki Z900 is taken care of with the help of twin 300mm disc brakes up front along with a single 250mm disc brake at the rear. The suspension set up on the Z900 includes 41mm inverted forks up front along with a monoshock at the rear. Being a naked streetfighter, the Kawasaki Z900 offers a brilliant handling and you can live with it every day primarily due to the fact that it is easy to maneuver even in tight city traffic. Kawasaki Z900 rides on 120/70-ZR17 front and 180/55-ZR17 rear tyres that come mounted over stylish alloy wheels. Furthermore, these are tubeless so you do not need to panic in case of a puncture. The steel trellis frame helps in agile handling and stability of the motorcycle and this is the reason why you can enjoy it equally on straight roads and the twisties.

The Kawasaki Z900 gets dual disc brakes up front along with a single disc brake at the rear for an enhanced stopping power and bring the bike to a halt as and when required. An Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is also on offer for a more effective braking and added safety. The headlamp of the bike stays always ON, all thanks to which the motorcycle is easily visible to others, resulting in lesser chances of a mishap. The motorcycle gets a pass by switch as well so that the rider can alert others on the road.
