We finally get our hands on a BS6 Jawa Forty Two, and it now comes with a bunch of upgrades. The alloy wheels, blacked-out engine and the matte paint scheme might give it a sinister look, but the new Forty Two is a very easy-going and friendly motorcycle. But, is it the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything? Shumi finds out!
- Jawa 42 BS6 exhaust note is loud and bassy - Jawa 42 BS6 top speed is around 120kmph - Jawa 42 BS6 review is now live on BikeDekho - Jawa 42 BS6 price is Rs 1.84 lakh - Jawa Forty Two BS6 launched in India - Jawa 42 2.1 review is live on BikeDekho - Jawa 42 vs Royal Enfield Classic 350 will soon go live Jawa has launched the new Forty Two 2.1 in India at Rs 1.84 lakh. The Jawa 42 2.1 isn’t an all-new bike and more of a variant of the Jawa 42. The Jawa 2.1 gets alloy wheels, which means you can tubeless tyres and receives matte-balck treatment on the engine case, exhaust pipe and few other components. The new Jawa bike also gets accessories such as a windscreen, grab rail and engine guard. Jawa will also be offering saddlebags as an option. The switchgear has also been redesigned and it now gets two tripmeters as part of the update. We would have aprreciated an updated instrument console with details like a gear position indicator, range, real-time fuel efficiency and navigation. On the mechanical side, the bike gets a motor that makes slightly more power than the older BS6 engine. The new 42 gets a rumbly exhaust note that will be appreciated by a lot of bikers. The bassy exhaust note can be heard from a distance and for a BS6-compliant engine, Jawa has done a good job! The Jawa 42 BS6 competes against the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Benelli Imperiale 400, Honda H’ness CB350 and the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. No doubt, there are huge expectations surrounding the latest Jawa Motorcycles, recently resurrected by Classic Legends. The two motorcycles they’ve launched so far, the Jawa and the Forty Two, combine the original Jawa’s pedigree and ageless style with modern mechanicals - chief among which is a 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine running a 4-valve head that’s been derived from the Mahindra Mojo. And there’s sensible pricing here to boot - the Jawa, coming in at Rs 1.64 lakh and the Forty Two priced even lower at Rs 1.55 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). Put all that together and you have a formula that will, and has, riders banging down the showroom doors. But, when you walk through the door and hop onto the saddle, will the Jawa live up to your expectations? We try to tackle that question at our first ride of these two delectable motorcycles in picturesque Rajasthan. Ours first look at the 2018 Jawa line up!
