Here is what our experts feel about CB Unicorn 160
Honda CB Unicorn 160 is a powerful bike with a bit of sporty look for the commuter segment in India. It is the elder sibling of one of the best sellers, Honda CB Unicorn 150. The CB Unicorn 160 differs from the Unicorn 150 in terms of styling and features. While the latter one is very simple looking and completely mechanical, the former one has a sporty look and a digital console. The only major update in this bike is the inclusion of a BS-IV compliant engine running on efficient Honda Eco Technology (HET) and has the mandatory Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) feature as well. What sets the CB Unicorn 160 apart from its competitors, such as the Yamaha FZ-S, Suzuki Gixxer and TVS Apache RTR 160, is the less aggressive design style. While the aggressive sports design might attract the college youngsters, the young office goers prefer a less flashy bike with good fuel efficiency, which they can go to work and enjoy it during the weekends. This sporty CB Unicorn 160 is available in two variants: CB Unicorn 160 Standard and CB Unicorn 160 CBS. Colours available on the bike are Matte Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Pearl Amazing White and a new Matte Marvel Blue Metallic too with a starting price of Rs 83,411 (On road, Delhi).
As mentioned earlier, CB Unicorn 160 is a sportier and stylish version of the CB Unicorn 150. Muscular design with sharp lines goes well with the headlamp cluster, that looks sharp with its bikini fairing. While the clear lens turn indicators and the black windscreen increase the style quotient of the bike. The dual graphic designs with the clean Honda wing logo looks sporty while being classy. An amber coloured backlight illuminates the whole digital meter console screen as it gives you information via a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer and trip meter. Blacked out side panel adds to the sporty look while the taillight has a unique shape which looks very attractive on the bike. The blacked out engine and the alloy make it stand out from rest of the silver coloured ones. As this is a commuter bike the seat is kept long and is very comfortable. The bike measures 2045mm long, 757mm wide and 1060mm high. Wheelbase is 1324mm while the ground clearance is 150mm.
As CB Unicorn 160 comes from the house of Honda, you can expect the engine to be refined. CB Unicorn gets an air-cooled 4 stroke SI 162.71cc engine, which is also BSIV compliant and produces a max power of 13.82PS at 8000 rpm with a peak torque of 13.92Nm at 6000 rpm. And to put that power on to the wheels, the engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission and can achieve a top speed of 106kmph. High fuel efficiency is guaranteed as this smooth engine comes with, Honda Eco Technology (HET) and gives a mileage of around 62kmpl. The bike comes with kick and electric start which is not a standard feature of every bike in this segment. Viscous paper filter is installed instead of a normal filter to increase the life of the engine along with the mileage.
Honda CB Unicorn 160 is evolved according to Indian conditions, which ensures you feel safe and in control of the bike all the time. Telescopic forks at the front and center-installed hydraulic monoshock suspension setup at the rear make sure even the ride filled with potholes is a smooth one. Thanks to the rigid diamond frame, the integrated suspension setup works quite brilliantly and smoothly. Riding in the city or on the highways is similar as you will get a planted and smooth ride. Higher variant of the CB Unicorn 160 gets front disc brake backed by the Combi Brake System (CBS). The front disc measures at 240mm and the rear drum brake at 130mm. Tubeless tyres, MRF Zapper, provide the road grip with the front one 80/100 and the rear one at 110/80 . These grippy tyres cover the 17-inch six-spoke matt black alloy wheels.
Being a commuter bike, the Honda CB Unicorn 160 comes with basic safety features. As mentioned earlier, the brake setup has the Honda’s Combi Brake System (CBS) with equalizer, which ensures that both the brakes are applied when you press the rear lever. The bike has the grippy MRF tubeless tyres that not only give you a superior grip on roads but also do not deflate immediately in case of a puncture. This feature allows the bike to be stable and get the rider some extra time to reach a garage to repair the puncture.
