Platina 110 Expert Review

Here is what our experts feel about Platina 110

Bajaj is a champion in motorcycles with their Pulsar range. Their partnership with KTM, they have brought even better-equipped motorcycles to India. Bajaj has always pioneered with their advanced technology by bringing it to the masses. And the Platina Comfortec is one of those bikes built to cater to the needs of the common man. For a first, the Platina Comfortec is one of the top 15 two-wheelers sold in India. It also has many of the segment-leading features with LED DRLs, thicker rear tyre, twin-spark engine, better suspension and many more. It provides more features at a very low price. But it does face tough competition from mainly Hero with its HF Deluxe and the Splendor Plus, TVS Sport, and Honda Dream Series. Bajaj Platina Comfortec is available in one variant of electric start with alloy wheel only which has a best in class price of Rs.47,405 (price is Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Platina Comfortec is a commuter bike that is basic yet has features better than its rivals in its segment. The best one is the LED DRL feature up on the headlight cowl, and it is the only bike in the 100cc class to have it. It is not only bright and attractive but also helps you to maintain the mileage by taking less battery voltage. On the side, the bike gets a slim long tank along with the smooth flowing sleek side panels. At the rear, the bright tail light is flanked by clear turn indicators. Body coloured grab handles and the chrome plate on the exhaust look really neat. With a unique pinstriped seat that has a foam structure which absorbs undulations provides a smooth jerk free ride. The instrument console is analogue and comes with a speedometer, odometer, and a fuel gauge. Convenience is the prime focus of Bajaj as you get an electric starter as standard whereas others provide the same as an option. Platina Comfortec has rubber footpads that give superior grip with good cushioning for a comfortable riding experience. Cocktail Red and Black are two colour choices available for this basic commuter bike.

Powering the bike is a unique engine and unlike other single spark bikes, this comes with a modern twin spark technology. The 102cc, single cylinder, 2-valve, DTS-I with ExhausTEC engine produces a max power of 7.9PS at 7500rpm and a peak torque 8.34Nm at 5500rpm. The engine is BSIV compliant and is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. DTS-I with ExhausTEC technology not only gives refinement and more power, it also delivers a milage of an amazing 104kmpl. Even the top speed is segment-leading at 90kmph compared to the HF Deluxe or the Splendor Plus. Fuel tank capacity is at a decent 11.5 litres. With the best-in-class wheelbase of 1255mm and also with a ground clearance of 200mm the bike is not only safe & comfortable but also clears any road bumps easily.

Bajaj Platina Comfortec as the name suggests is a low priced motorcycle built for maximum comfort. All the aspects from the riding position to the suspension to the tyres are all built for comfort. The riding position is perfect with an upright posture that makes city commutes less tiring. On the suspension front, the bike gets a telescopic fork with 135mm of travel on the front and on the rear, it gets a unique double spring SNS (Spring in Spring) suspension with 110mm of travel. SNS suspension is better than single spring rear suspension which the others in its segment have as it is more durable and comfortable as well. Braking is commanded by decent working drum brakes with 130mm unit at the front while the rear gets a 110mm unit. A disc brake is not even provided as an option, maybe to keep the price low. Directional tyres of section 41 P on front and section 50 P on rear provide solid grip and stability. Also, the 3-inch rear tyre is widest in its segment and has the best in class road grip. Alloy wheels which come as standard, adds to the style quotient of this commuter.

This is a very basic commuter bike by Bajaj and comes with a set of basic features only. For one thing, it has the AHO feature installed in its headlight. With this safety feature in place, the bike remains visible to any oncoming traffic in any weather conditions. Thereby making the biker and pillion safe. It does miss out on disc brake but the drum units perform satisfactorily.
