Here is what our experts feel about Mana
Aprilla is well known for speed and over the years, their superbikes have won many championship titles. Launched first in 2007, Mana 850 was a new bike from Aprilia to cater for every possible need of the most discerning rider. It was created as a symbiotic partnership between Aprilia and Piaggio engineers. Thus Mana 850 was the first naked bike with a scooter like features from Aprilla with their patented SportGear sequential transmission and never seen before, a helmet compartment at the front. This motorcycle embodies the engine development expertise of the Pontedera plant together with the advanced, race-derived research of Aprilia. Mana 850 GT is a sort of half-scooter and half motorcycle put together to be the bike for all occasions. With a top speed of 193kmph and mileage of 14kmpl makes it an excellent sport touring bike. Being a touring bike, the Aprilia Mana GT 850 competes with Triumph Tiger 800, BMW R 1200 GS, and Ducati Multistrada 950. Mana GT 850 is available in only one variant at a price of Rs.14,81,000 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
Aprilia Mana GT 850 comes with a protectiveness of the elegant top fairing that is acknowledged by the round headlamp section. The tall windshield enhances its appearance and also aids rider while touring at high speeds. Helmet compartment which is actually located in place of the fuel tank can be considered as an extra feature. The actual fuel tank is positioned under the pillion seat and has a capacity of 16 litres. Furthermore, the motorcycle also has a split seat that is well-padded and provides good comfort to the rider as well as pillion. At the rear, the full LED tail lamp unit looks well laid out. Matrix instrument (analogue-digital) panel is elegant and sporty instrument panel has its own dedicated self-diagnostic memory. The LED backlighting has three different brightness settings to ensure that the info is perfectly readable in all conditions. There is also a range of original accessories developed especially for the Mana GT 850. Personalisable rigid panniers are large enough to hold one flip-up helmet each and made from impact resistant, scratch resistant and wear resistant material. Top box and stainless steel luggage rack also help extend the load capacity of the motorcycle and maintain proper weight distribution. Also available is rear splash guard to protect you from the water splashes and a centre stand as well. The bike is available in two colours of Black and White.
Mana GT 850 has an innovative engine designed and developed by the Aprilia Research and Development Division. This engine is an Aprilia 839.3cc, four-stroke, 90-degree, V twin with liquid cooling, single overhead camshaft and 4 valves per cylinder. It produces maximum power 76.1hp at 8000rpm and a peak torque 73Nm at 5.000rpm. Mana GT being a unique motorcycle has no clutch lever but has two transmission modes - Autodrive mode, and Semi-Autodrive mode for transmission management. In the Autodrive mode, the electronic transmission management system takes care of everything. In this mode, you can also choose from 3 different engine maps of Touring (for relaxed long-distance journeys), Sport (for tackling the tarmac with a vengeance) and Rain (for maximum safety even in slippery conditions). On the Semi-Autodrive mode, you can exploit engine braking when riding down mountain roads, by downshifting with the foot lever or handlebar shift control.
Aprilia’s technical perfectionism and obsessive attention to detail are even evident in the suspension. Upside-down front fork offers effective and progressive damping action; while the rear adjustable side-mounted shock absorber is equipped with an adjustment dial as standard. With a wheel travel of 120mm at the front and 125mm at the rear, tackling any spectrum of road conditions is now very easy. Even the brake system on the Aprilia Mana GT has a degree of technological sophistication. Brakes on the front boast four-piston radial callipers, stopping a pair of 320mm floating discs and the rear has 260mm disc brake. This brake setup comes with a 2-channel ABS system as standard. Mana GT 850 features a special handbrake lever on the left-hand side of the motorcycle. It facilitates parking maneuvers even when on a downhill slope and makes brief stops (to adust or at toll booths) a lot easier. The bike comes with 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels that run on radial tubeless tyres of section 120/70 ZR 17 on the front and a section 180/55 ZR 17 at the rear.
Aprilia Mana GT is easily adaptable to every kind of weather condition, thanks to the Rain engine map on its system. The touring motorcycle also comes with a 2-channel ABS system from Continental. This ABS system increases active safety by optimising the braking action even with a less experienced motorcyclist and helps maintain control over the vehicle even in critical situations. Aprilia Mana GT is the only bike to feature an exclusive, spacious front compartment (which looks like a fuel tank) and is large enough for a flip-up helmet. This special compartment is lined with a slip-proof, scratch-resistant surface and lighted; also boasts internal 12-V power socket to charge your smartphone or other electronic devices.
