Yamaha has launched an ABS variant of the YZF-R15 V3 in India at a price of Rs. 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This translates to a premium of Rs. 12,000 over the non-ABS model. The sports bike has also been given a new colour option – Darknight. The R15 in this new colour is priced at Rs. 1.41 lakh. The Darknight colour is thus pricier by Rs. 2,000 as compared to the regular grey and blue colour options.
The ABS module added to the R15 V3 is a dual-channel ABS unit. It thus avoids both front and rear wheels from locking during emergency braking manoeuvres. This enhances rider control and thus is an added safety protection. Addition of the ABS module has added 3 kg to the bike’s weight, thus resulting in wet weight of 142 kg. It is worth noting that the Yamaha R15 V3 is currently the only 150cc motorcycle in the country to come with a dual channel ABS unit.
No other mechanical changes have been made to the YZF-R15 V3. It thus continues to draw power from a 155cc, single cylinder liquid-cooled engine that comes with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). This power plant is capable of churning out 19.3PS and a peak torque of 15Nm, while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The front end is suspended over conventional telescopic forks, while the rear gets a link-type monoshock.
