Leaked patent images of the 2019 Yamaha NMax 155 have appeared online which suggests that the updated version of the maxi-styled scooter is likely to be introduced later this year. The Japanese two-wheeler behemoth, according to sources, recently changed its market strategy for India. The brand will now train its guns on the performance-oriented segment of the Indian market instead of competing with more established brands in the small-capacity commuting vehicle class. There were speculations that the company was planning to bolster its presence in the 150cc scooter space. The leaked patent images of the 2019 NMax 155 seems to reinforce that.
The present generation NMax is hauled by a four-valve, 155cc motor with variable valve actuation (VVA) technology. The two-wheeler outputs 15PS maximum power at 8,000rpm and 14.4Nm peak torque at 6,000rpm. The engine is mated to an automatic, dry centrifugal clutch. The vehicle is mounted on conventional telescopic forks in the front and twin shock absorbers at the back. Both wheels come with disc brakes. The NMax 155 has antilock braking system (ABS) as standard.
Yamaha, however, has still not revealed whether the powertrain from the present NMax will be retained in the production version of the India-specific model. However, the scooter is expected to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
The leaked images have revealed a sleeker headlamp design which is likely to be an LED unit, along with repositioned indicators. The area behind the maxi-scooter’s front apron has been revised. It now has a closed storage space to keep knick-knacks and other essentials. The compartment also gets an optional charging point.
The saddle of the 2019 Yamaha NMax 155 has a similar step-up design along with a single grab rail. The tail section of the vehicle has also been redesigned. However, the scooter retains the exhaust channel, heat shield design, and the engine fins from its present model.
