TVS Jupiter Is Now BS IV-Ready

After Suzuki Access and Honda Activa 4G, it's time for the TVS Jupiter to go BS IV-compliant

TVS Jupiter, the most feature-packed 110cc scooter, received its BS IV update and now comes with the always headlamp on the feature. New government regulations that go into action on April 1, 2017, mandate all two wheelers to have their headlamps on all the time and have a BS IV-compliant engine. The braking setup is also synchronised, and it applies the front brakes as well when you squeeze the rear brake lever. It reduces the braking distance but maintains a bias towards the rear, where all the weight is concentrated. This feature was earlier offered only on the top, ZX trim, but it's now available as standard on all variants. For 2017, TVS has also added two new colours, Jade Green and Mystic Gold, to the Jupiter's palette.

With the updates, the 2017 Jupiter was expected to get pricier, but the Chennai-based company surprised us by keeping the price tags unchanged. The ex-showroom Delhi pricing of the Jupiter is as follows:

- STD: Rs 49,666

- ZX: Rs 51,689

- ZX Disc Brake: Rs 53,666

The 110cc engine that powers the Jupiter makes 8PS of power at 7500rpm and 8Nm of torque at 5500rpm. It's paired with a CVT transmission for a relaxed clutch-less riding experience.

The TVS Jupiter is the most feature-packed scooter in its class and makes its competition look bare bones in comparison. Some of its unique features include:

- Eco mode indicator

- Large 12-inch alloy wheels, front and back

- Advanced telescopic suspension in front

- Long wheelbase of 1275mm

- Pass switch

- Forward-facing kick start

- Optional front disc brake

- Metallic body

- External fuel filling

- Low fuel indicator

- Collapsible luggage hooks

- Provision for mobile charger

- Dual side handlebar locking

Despite having the longest list of features, it is not overpriced and comes across as the most value-for-money offering in the segment. The Honda Activa was also updated recently and went from 3G to 4G. In the name of updates, it received the mandatory BS IV engine tune up and the always-headlamp-on feature. Other new features of the Activa 4G include a collapsible luggage hook and a mobile charging socket. These updates shot up its price tag by Rs 440, and it now costs Rs 50,730. An extremely refined and reliable engine that aids city riding and the Honda badge of trust remain its strong points that keep its popularity ratings high.
