Jupiter is the star performer of TVS in terms of sales in the scooter segment. And now with the festive season just around the corner, the Hosur based company seems to be gearing up to launch a new variant of the Jupiter. From the images, we feel that the new variant was spotted at what looks like an R&D facility. A new LED headlight, a semi-digital instrument cluster, leather-type seat covers, chrome garnish on the front fender and a new paint scheme are the updates visible in this new variant from the leaked images.
Considering the ‘Grande’ badge sporting on the front apron and the slew of features offered, we expect this new Jupiter to be offered as a premium variant. Hence, do expect to see features such as the USB charger and reserve fuel indicator to be integrated into this as well.
In the engine department, however, do not expect any changes. It will most probably have the same 109.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that powers the current Jupiter. This engine is mated to a CVT transmission and produces 8PS of power with 8Nm of torque. With telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock unit, the underpinnings are expected to remain almost unchanged. On the rear end, its 12-inch wheels get drum brakes as standard. The Jupiter in the image has a drum brake at the front, however, a similar one in the background sports a disc brake. This indicates that the disc brake will be offered as an option in the Grande variant.
Jupiter is currently sold by TVS in four different variants - Std (Rs.51,488), ZX (Rs.54,436), ZX Disc (Rs.56,488) and the Classic Edition (Rs.57,648). The likes of Honda Activa 5G, Hero Maestro Edge and Yamaha Ray-ZR are its main competitors in this segment. Looking at the slew of features and updates on this ‘Grande Edition’, TVS is likely to charge a premium price of about Rs 3,000 over the ZX variant. We also do expect these additional updates to be featured on the standard variant by 2019 as well.
