Boasting best-in-class power to weight ratio, the new Suzuki GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 look inspired by the litre-class GSX-R1000.
The Indonesian wing of Suzuki Motorcycles today revealed the much-anticipated GSX-R150 along with its naked version, the GSX-S150, in Jakarta. Both the bikes will be launched in the Indonesian market by early 2017, while deliveries are expected to start by February 2017. If we talk about the global debut of the models, it can be expected at the upcoming EICMA show in Milan, Italy, on November 5th, 2016.
Like the KTM RC series, all the new small-capacity sportbikes from Suzuki look identical to each other, including the GSX-R125, GSX-R150 and the GSX-R250. All the three bikes share a new styling that is inspired by the litre-class GSX-R1000. Being the naked version of the GSX-R150, the new GSX-S150 also keeps the same DNA and just misses out on the front body fairing.
Both the Suzuki GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 are powered by a new 147cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine that comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Using an electronic fuel injection (EFI) system, the motor produces a best-in-class power of 19.4PS at 10,500rpm and a peak torque of 14Nm at 9,000rpm. Moreover, the machine weighs just 126kg , providing it with class-leading power to weight ratio as well.
Besides the regular features of a 150cc sportbike, the new GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 gets some interesting bits like LED headlights and keyless ignition. Talking about their launch in the Indian market, we can't expect them here anytime soon. The reason being that the company is already doing well with the cheaper 155cc air-cooled engine-powered Gixxer (naked) and the Gixxer SF (faired) and it won't be a wise decision to bring counterparts of its own products in a market. However, we can expect their entry in India after a few years, maybe after the launch of Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0.
