Leading Japanese automobile manufacturer Suzuki has teased enthusiasts with a new two-wheeler which the company is expected to launch on May 20. The image, however, practically reveals nothing. Industry experts, nonetheless, are betting big that the vehicle teased by the Hamamatsu headquartered company, in all probability, is the new Gixxer 250.
The international-specification Suzuki Gixxer 250 has a fully digital LCD instrument console and LED lights all around. It’s highly likely that the company will introduce a similar version of the bike for Indian customers. While no technical details of the India-specific Gixxer 250 are available as of now, the bike is likely to be hauled by a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 250cc motor that produces 20-22PS maximum power. The motorcycle is likely to be mounted on conventional telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock absorber. The ministry of road transport and highways has mandated the use of antilock braking system (ABS) on all above-125cc bikes which have been implemented from last month. The Gixxer 250 is expected to have dual-channel ABS as standard.
Suzuki, besides the new two-wheeler, has hinted that it may launch the upgraded versions of the Gixxxer SF and the Gixxer 150 motorcycles. The Gixxer series hasn’t undergone a proper upgrade since it was first launched in 2014. It’s high time that Suzuki carried out the upgrade to stay in the competition.
Suzuki is yet to reveal the price of the Gixxer 250. The India-specific version of the bike is touted to have an ex-showroom price of INR1.14 lakh. The new Suzuki motorcycle, when launched, will compete with the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 (INR1.27 lakh) and the Yamaha Fazer 25 (INR1.43 lakh). Besides the new Gixxer, the company could be working on an upgraded version of the Access 125 as well. It may release a teaser soon since the Indian scooter market is growing rapidly.
