Kymco, the leading Taiwanese two-wheeler manufacturer, is likely to introduce the X-Town 300i scooter in India. The company recently joined hands with the Gurugram-based 22Motors to launch several new products in India and has released a number of teasers in this regard on the social media. One such teaser shows a product with the ‘300’ decal and it’s being believed that the X-Town 300i is headed for India.
Kymco was earlier reported to be interested only in electric scooters for the Indian market. However, it now seems that the company is also planning to market fuel-powered two-wheelers in India. The X-Town 300i maxi-scooter is hauled by a fuel-injected, single-cylinder 276cc motor. The liquid-cooled engine produces 24.5PS maximum power at 7,250rpm and 25Nm peak torque at 6,250rpm.
The international version of the Kymco X-Town 300i has a split headlight with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), front apron cubby holes, a tall windscreen, semi-digital instrument control and plenty of storage under the seat.
The Kymco X-Town 300i is supported by a telescopic fork in the front and a twin rear shock absorber. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes of 240mm and 260mm at the back and front respectively. The maxi-scooter comes with antilock-braking system (ABS) as standard. The X-Town 300i runs on 13-inch rear and 14-inch front wheels, shod with 150/70-section and 120/80-section tyres respectively. The vehicle has a 12.5-litre petrol tank and a seat height of 80mm. The 181kg dry weight of the two-wheeler is on the higher side for a maxi-scooter in the Indian market.
The international-specification model of the Kymco X-Town 300i commands an ex-showroom price of $3,999 (approximately INR2.7 lakh). The company, however, is likely to keep the price under INR2 lakh for the Indian market by locally sourcing some of the components. The engine may also be detuned to keep production costs under control.
