Indian Motorcycle is currently working on its first ever electric motorcycle which will hit the production floor by 2021
Indian Motorcycle is one of the oldest bike manufacturers in the world and is a brand which offers cruisers currently. The bikemaker is presently working on an electric motorcycle which is still in the early stage of development. The production of the motorcycle will commence roughly within next five years and it will be the first electric motorcycle by the company.
The bike will be positioned as a lifestyle product. We think the motorcycle is likely to get innovative cruiser styling while following the contemporary Indian design language. Indian is targeting a range of 200-230 kilometres on one full charge. This is the second time Polaris, the parent company of Indian and Victory Motorcycle (now shut down), has made an attempt to develop an electric motorcycle.
Victory Motorcycles had an electric motorcycle in its portfolio. The Empulse TT offered a range of 120 kilometres on one full charge and was on sale in America for 20,000 USD (around Rs 14 lakh without taxes). Indian Motorcycles also plans to expand their current model range in the next few years by adding smaller capacity motorcycles.
Steve Menneto, President at Polaris Motorcycles, announced that he wants to attract new riders with ‘fun’ electric motorcycles. "The characteristics of the electric powertrain would allow riders to enjoy the bike in twisties," he added.
