Honda, the leading Japanese automobile behemoth, has officially launched the 2019 Africa Twin bike in India at an ex-showroom price of INR13.5 lakh. The vehicle is priced at INR27,000 premium over its 2018 version. Only 50 units of the bike will be brought to India via the completely knocked down kit (CKD) route and the company has already opened its bookings.
The 2018 model of the Africa Twin came in black, white, and red paint schemes. The latest version, however, will have a special blue, and white colour scheme with a golden handlebar and spoke wheels.
Speaking about the launch, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) senior vice-president (sales and marketing), Yadvinder Guleria, said that the Africa Twin, since its India debut in 2017, has always witnessed a high demand. The bike offers unmatched performance for adventure seekers, he said, adding that the 2019 version sports a fresh appearance.
Except for the new colour, the 2019 Honda Africa Twin will retain its mechanicals from the existing version. The parallel twin 999.11cc engine produces 87.7bhp at 7,500rpm and 93.1Nm peak torque at 6,000rpm. The bike comes with Honda’s dual clutch transmission (DCT) technology which offers automatic gear shifting. In the automatic mode, riders have the option to choose between ‘D’ for comfortable cruising, or three dynamic sports settings in ‘S’. Antilock braking system (ABS) comes as a standard feature.
The 2019 Africa Twin also comes with Honda’s selectable torque control (STC) system which offers seven different settings for a wide range of riding conditions. The bike is supported by inverted Show cartridge-type front fork with pre-load adjustable settings on both wheels. The suspension can be adjusted for a stiffer or softer setting according to the ride conditions. The seat is also height-adjustable, offering the best body balance while riding. The Honda 2019 Africa Twin has a 2.5-metre turning radius.
