Honda Activa Sells 1.4 Million Units During April-September, Claims Top Spot
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, in a statement, have revealed that it sold 1,393,256 units of the Activa scooter from April to September of the current fiscal. The number translates to 7,740 Activa scooters sold on each day in the period under review. The Honda Activa popularised gearless scooters in India, which contributes nearly 14 percent of the revenue earned by the domestic two-wheeler industry.
The scooter industry, however, has felt the impact of the current slowdown in the automobile sector. Sales dropped by 55 percent to 5,55,829 units in September. Overall sales in the April-September period were down by 17 percent to 31,77,433 units. During the same six months, the sales of Honda Activa were down by 22 percent, compared to the same period in the last fiscal. However, the Activa still retained the top spot in sales, among all its segment competitors.
Honda, in May, launched the Activa 5G Limited Edition scooter with an entry-level price of INR55,032. The top-level DLX trim of the scooter is priced at INR56,897. Honda has claimed that the Limited Edition model, which has 10 premium-styled additions and comes in two new dual-color schemes, has seen strong interest from all regions. Honda has reportedly doubled the scooter’s production to cater to the increased demand.
Honda also launched the new Activa 125 in September. It is the first scooter in the Indian two-wheeler market to conform to the upcoming BS-VI emission standard to be implemented from April 1. The Activa 125 is available in the Standard, Alloy, and Deluxe trim that command ex-showroom prices of INR67,490, INR70,990 and INR74,490 respectively. The Activa 125 is hauled by a 124cc motor, which produces 8.1bhp power. The power is marginally lower than the 8.52bhp output of the outgoing version. However, the latter used a BS-IV carburetted engine, while the new version is equipped with a fuel-injected BS-VI motor.
