Leading Indian indigenous two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp has hiked the price of its entire range by 1 percent with immediate effect. The hike includes both scooters and motorcycles. The Hero Destini 125 scooter which commanded an ex-showroom price of INR55,080, is now pegged at INR55,631, a premium of INR580. The Maestro Edge 125 and the Hero Pleasure+ two-wheelers that were launched recently have also witnessed a price hike.
Hero recently introduced the Xtreme 200S, a fully-faired motorcycle. The bike is now priced at INR99,384 which includes a hike of INR984. Even the Splendor iSmart Plus, which is one of Hero’s bestselling two-wheelers, has undergone a hike and will now retail for INR56,843. The vehicle earlier commanded a price tag of INR56,280. The Splendor iSmart Plus recently got a certification for its BS-VI compliant engine. The new emission norms are set to be implemented from 1 April next year.
Hero MotorCorp said in a statement that the exact increase in price will vary according to the model of the two-wheeler and taxes as applicable on the ex-showroom price. Reports suggest that the hike was carried out because of the increase in commodity, raw materials, and other input costs.
The automobile industry in India is passing through a tough time with both cars and two-wheelers witnessing a southward sales trend. Manufacturers have also slowed production or have come up with a slew offers to attract customers.
