The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer which has been already spotted being tested, could command an on-road price of INR1.25 lakh in Chennai, according to dealer sources. The current version of the Gixxer has a price of INR1.10 lakh in the same city.
The new Gixxer will borrow the motor from the 2019 Gixxer SF. The faired motorcycle is hauled by a single-cylinder 154.9cc engine which produces 14.1PS maximum power at 8,000rpm and 14Nm peak torque at 6,000rpm. The BS-VI compliant motor is mated to a 5-speed gear system.
The 2019 Gixxer retains the same underpinnings as its current version. It is supported by a telescopic front fork and a monoshock absorber at the back. The motorcycle has disc brakes on both wheels while antilock braking system (ABS) is a standard feature.
The new Suzuki Gixxer has a new bodywork design with an LED headlamp. The bike gets a new instrument cluster which is strikingly similar to that of the 2019 Gixxer SF. Even the silver colour scheme on the new Gixxer seems to be borrowed from the 2019 Gixxer SF. The mid-portion panel cover on the frame has darker shade compared to the bodywork colour and gives a dual-tone feel. The fuel injection (FI) badge is on the left-hand side of the fuel tank. The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer’s tail section is sleeker and the motorcycle has split seats instead of the single unit as in the outgoing version. The LED taillights of the bike bear similarity to the 2019 Gixxer SF.
The current Suzuki Gixxer has an ex-showroom price of INR88,941. The 2019 version is likely to cost around INR10,000 more. The new Gixxer, according to industry reports, could be launched shortly. It will face competition from the Yamaha FZ FI Version 3.0, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Honda CB Hornet 160R, and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160.
