India's favourite scooter is now BS IV-ready and packs a couple of extra features
Honda has launched the 2017 Activa 4G with BS IV-compliant engine and always headlamps on feature. The always-on headlamps act as daytime running lights and make the rider more visible to other road users.
The new features on the scooter are a charging socket for mobile phones and collapsible bag hook. The face of the Activa 4G has received minor touch ups that are hard to spot.
Rest of the features remain untouched, and it still runs on 10-inch steel wheels while the competition has moved to 12-inch alloys. The instrument cluster is also bare bones with only
The scooter is still powered by the 109cc engine that makes 8PS of power at 7500rpm and 9Nm of torque at 5500rpm. It's this low RPM torque that makes this scooter easy to ride in the city. The Activa is the default choice for most Indians looking to buy a scooter. It has managed to topple the Hero Splendor from the top spot and is now playing seesaw with the commuter motorcycle since demonetization.
The CVT automatic transmission and the extra storage space, under the seat and on the footboard, makes it a lot easier to live with compared to a bike with clutch and gears. The Activa also comes with a unique lift-up rear cover for easy maintenance. There's also the combined braking that applies the front brakes as well even if the rider only squeezes the rear brakes. It minimises the braking distance while keeping the scooter under control even under hard braking.
With all the updates, the 2017 Honda Activa 4G costs Rs 440 more than before and is priced at Rs 50,730 (ex-showroom Delhi).
