Japan’s recent Tsunami might have delayed Toyota’s plans of launching their first hatchback for India, the Liva by a few months, but the news out is that the car is ready and production is in full swing. Infact,it is expected that Toyota will launch the Liva commercially by the end of June 2011 which means very soon, the likes of the Hyundai i10 and Maruti Suzuki Swift will have to pull up their socks in order to savetheir territory. The Toyota Liva looks like its elder sibling, the Toyota Etios, though obviously, without the boot. The Liva isn’t very striking in appearance but does carry elegant design lines and looks quite smart.
As visible in these exclusive pictures, the Liva will also have different trim levels with similar naming as the Etios. Seen here is also the top end Liva, the Liva VX – this will sport additions like the little spoiler at the back, body skirting, alloy wheels , rear wash-wiper and of course lots of chrome.
The Etios’ price range starts at just Rs 5 lakh for the base model and we won’t be surprised if Toyota gives the base model of the Liva, the J model a sticker price of around Rs 3.75 lakh (ex-showroom,Delhi). Now that will clearly help the Liva give a very tough fight to other hatchbacks in India. Stay tuned for more!
