Tata Motors was there to showcase their might at the 2012 Defence Expo in New Delhi. Among the largest of the exhibits was Tata's 12x12 Prahar Missile Carrier. This new missile system is capable of firing the Prahar, Brahmos and Nirbhay missiles. It can also be used for logistical operations as far as missile warheads are concerned. The new vehicles has been developed by Tata Motors in co-ordination with R&DE- DRDO.
The vehicle is equipped with a state of the art Electronic Controlled heavy duty engine and automatic transmission, has high obility features like Anti-Locking Braking System(ABS), Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), Auxiliary Gear box with High and low speed mode and differential locks system. The vehicle is operable normally in 12x8 mode and can be driven in 12x10 and 12x12 modes as per terrain requirements. At the heart of the beast is a 525 hp BSIII engine that generates a massive 2000 Nm of twisting force. Coupled to a 7-speed automatic transmission the missile system can be driven over extremely tough terrain under full payload.
