The Renault-Nissan alliance will soon bring an all-new small car aimed at the global markets. Alongside them are Ford who have also adopted a similar approach for the new models. A global product platform has been the tried and tested method of the American car maker and soon Renault-Nissan will join the bandwagon. The next small car from the car maker is expected to be called the I2 and would be available in most of the markets throughout the globe.
In India, the car would take on the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Eon which have been the front runners when it comes to the entry-level segment. The Alto on the other hand has been topping the sales charts time and again. Since, splitting-up with Mahindra, Renault has launched the Pulse which basically is a re-badged Nissan Micra. With the I2, we expect both brands to share the platform and come up with their own versions of hatchbacks.
Renault-Nissan's manufacturing unit new Chennai has become the export hub for the car maker and with we could the same to continue when the I2 is launched. Being a global product, the I2 will be exported throughout the South-Asian and other markets in and around the region. In India, the Micra/Pulse is currently the smallest car offered by the brand. This would soon change as the I2 enters the fray. That said, the next big launch from Renault will be the Duster SUV. Stay tuned for more on that!
