The most anticipated car this year apart from the Ford EcoSport is undoubtedly the range of diesel cars Honda has lined-up. First among which will be the Honda Amaze and is expected to go on sale in the month of March, 2013. Until now, Honda has been setting a benchmark for petrol powered cars in India and now courtesy of increased demand for diesel cars, Honda has finally decided to bring in its diesel engines to the subcontinent.
Honda plans to plonk the diesel into most of its popular products including the Honda City. The Honda City sedan has been a best-seller for the Japanese car maker and with the introduction of a diesel the numbers could spike further. Also, the 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine that Honda has in store for us is among the tried and tested motors that power its European models. Following the launch of the Amaze, Honda also has plans to use the same diesel heart in the Jazz hatchback. Folks in India would have to wait for a Honda City diesel though.
The words coming out of Honda Cars India at the moment suggests that the Jazz would get 'diesel-ed' first following which the City diesel would be introduced. If things go well, we could see the new Honda City diesel drive into showrooms by this year end. For now, we can just speculate on the timeline, however the stage is set for Honda's latest generation diesel engine to mark its presence in the Indian diesel car market which has grown immensely over the past one year and expected to continue this trend even in the year 2013.
