German autogiant BMW is all set to launch the F650GS multi terrain tourer in India. The F650GS is a smaller version of the ever popular 1200GS.
The F650GS is a popular tourer across the globe and is powered by the same 798cc parallel-twin engine, that powers the F800S. The F650GS produces around 70bhp. The suspension regular rather than BMW’s unusual Paralever/Telelever set-ups.The final drive is via a chain instead of a belt/shaft that BMW is known for. The bike has a low seat height(than the 1200GS) making it a boon for tourers.
One might confuse the F650GS with the F650 Funduro that was launched in India in th mid-ninetees. The Funduro was a completely different model which was powered by a Rotax developed single cylinder engine.
The F650GS, if priced right, would be a major trump card for BMW. The bike has no direct competition so far, with the only heat coming from the to-be launched Triumph Tiger 800. We expect BMW to launch the F650GS in May with a price tag of approximately 10lakh.
