The never-ending tussle for supremacy continues as the top three German car makers fight it out to claim the crown of the best luxury car maker of the world. BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have been expanding their network east wards over the last few years in a bid to tap into the huge market potential. With all the three vying for the honors, competition is going to be cut throat. As far as India is concerned, BMW is readying the new 3-Series which should be launched well before the end of this year.
The 3-Series has evolved a lot over its lifetime and now BMW is mulling an entry-level sedan to take place of the 3-Series which may not be termed as a small sedan with the its larger dimensions and premium features. Having said that, an even smaller sedan does make quite a lot of sense as far as the luxury car segment in the subcontinent is concerned. Which made me think of the this- the BMW 1-Series sedan.
Now, BMW India has rubbished any claims of the car coming to India any time soon, however we do think it can play an important role in the entry-level luxury segment with Audi mulling the A3 sedan for India. According to Autocar, BMW could launch the 1-Series sedan by 2015 with North America and China in their sights and even though they haven't hinted at an India launch we can expects things to change over the next couple of years as Audi brings in their entry-level sedan.
Also, Mercedes-Benz is mulling a CLA which is designed on similar lines. Meanwhile, 1-Series sedan would share its underpinnings with the new 3-Series. A 1-Series GT based on the new 1'er will take the fight to the Mercedes-Benz B-Class which is yet another car that's being prepared for India.
